Challenge
Idemitsu needed a method to save time and costs when prospecting potential mine sites, following sample drilling of the potential sites. They asked for GIS People’s assistance to develop mine evaluation software to implement this.
Solution
GIS People used sample drilling data and parameters such as the life of the mine, the desirable profit, the number of open cut pits needed and the equipment used to model mine sites over a number of years.
Outcomes
- Prediction with 80% accuracy on viability of potential mine sites.
- Efficient method to decide whether a site is worth further investigation.
