Challenge
During the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak, Queensland Health faced a significant challenge in understanding the locations from which most of the demand for ambulance services came from. The challenge was to reduce travel times for patient pickups and optimize delivery of ambulance services to the residents of Brisbane.
Solution
GIS People suggested mapping a sample of 100,000 calls and producing a heatmap for the Northside and Southside of Brisbane. GIS People completed the work in a matter of days, providing critically important intelligence back to the department. The heatmap enabled Queensland Health to understand the "location clusters" from which most of the demand came from, allowing them to position their vehicles better.
Outcomes
- The work completed by GIS People provided Queensland Health with important intelligence that allowed them to optimize the delivery of ambulance services to the residents of Brisbane.
- The heatmap provided valuable insights into the location clusters that had the highest demand for ambulance services, enabling Queensland Health to improve their response times and provide better care to patients.
